Periodontal Disease/DNA and Bacterial Testing

What is periodontal disease?

It is and infection of the teeth, gums, and the bone that surrounds the teeth and its the leading cause of adult tooth loss. Stopping this condition begins with a thorough exam and diagnosis

The main cause of perio disease is the accumulation of plaque, the sticky film of food and bacteria that forms constantly on your teeth.

If the plaque isn't removed each day, the bacteria in the plaque invades the spaces between the teeth and gums and begin producing toxins. These toxins combined with your body's reaction to then destroy the bone around your teeth. Once the bone has been lost, it never grows back on it's own.

We treat all phases of periodontal disease striving to be as conservative and prevention oriented as possible.

In addition we have bacterial and DNA testing we can perform that can help us target the bacteria and determine if patients have a predisposition to the disease.  It is a very simple test that we know that the health of the mouth greatly affects our overall health.
